"”THE ULTIMATE HISTORY OF SIAM” - Royal Mail - 1857 King Mongkut's autographed letter of 17 pages comments on a new book about Siam by Sir John Bowring, Governor of Hong Kong: No. 349 dated 20th December 1857 written at the Grand Palace on double foded letter sheet size 20x25 cm., at left top corner bearing handstamped seal “Major King of Siam and handstamped the Royal Command Seal Khmer alphabet both in purple ink. The contents concerning King Monkut's decision to edit Sir John Bowring's book titled “People and the Kingdom of Siam” as per Sir John's requested. This two books discussed about the people way of living, its geography, culture, religion as well as Siam history. King Mongkut expressed his strong willingness to help editing Sir John's book for the next edition. The two books were considered amongst the most important books written about Siam besides those written by other foreigners such as Loubere and Palagoix. The letter was signed by King Mongkut and stamped with H.M. Royal Seal in purple ink on 2411th day of the reign and handstamped seal “S.P.P.M. MONGKUT REX SIAM” in purple ink. The P.S. writen on turquoise paper size 8x4.5 cm. upper left handstamped H. M. Royal seal in purple reads: “Wherever I wrote in this letter the word smelling, it is my mistaken in letter shall be read smiling in every place”. The whole 17 pages at upper left corner was tied together by red rope and sealed with red wax at the end. The content then was enclosed in a royal red silk pouch-style envelope size 12.5 x 33.5cm front cover attached paper addressed by personal manuscript to Sir John Bowring and care of Mr. Charles Bell, British Consulate in Bangkok and rope with hanging oval-shaped King's seals wax holder in gold size 3 x 4 cm. with height 1.8cm. The red silk envelope then sewed onto a unique large black cotton size 38 x 54cm. with underdelay cream wove fabric of the same size wrapped as official outer envelope. The longest letter ever recorded written by King Mongkut and the largest royal fabric outer cover ever recorded used. Magnificant preservation of this immensely rare items with only some usual faults visible for accuracy. Unique and historical significant thus excessively rare. Museum piece (17 pages +1 red silk cover + outer cover fabric black & cream) Note: At THAILAND 2018 World Stamp Exhibition held during 28th Nov to 3rd Dec at Siam Paragon, this precious historic letter was invited for the Court of Honour.
